Reported by Samuel Li

On October 29th, 2021, San Diego students of AYLUS donated 1,000 books to Barrio Logan College Institute. The donated books were collected by the families of volunteers from local schools across San Diego.

The Book Donation event is an event aimed at giving volunteers the opportunity to give back to their community through helping students from low-income areas. The major goal of Barrio Logan College Institute is to have a positive influence on the lives of San Diego impoverished adolescents and their future paths. In our programs, students begin their college journey in third grade. Until now, all of their pupils have enrolled in college.

In this event, in order to give many low income students a wider access to learning supplies and materials and tools needed to excel academically, AYLUS San Diego volunteers donated many books to the institute. By donating books, AYLUS is helping to make literature more accessible and teaching the importance of reading at a young age to the children of these at-risk families.

This event consisted of volunteers meticulously sorting through the books, packing the books into boxes, moving the books onto the campus of Barrio Logan College Institute, and finally helping load the boxes onto a car. The books will be distributed to the many students of the school to take home, in order to encourage reading outside of school hours.

In this event, AYLUS San Diego donated 18 boxes, with 1,000 books total.

The following students participated in the Book Donation donation: Samuel Li, Daniel Li, Amy peng, Nathan Yang, Enze Luo, Enke Luo
