East Cobb Branch Jay Pan March Tutoring Report

In the month of March 2021, the East Cobb Branch of AYLUS held Youth Tutoring activity online, in light of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. All tutoring activities were one-on-one and either Skype or Zoom was used. In the case of oversea students, WeChat was used for tutoring sessions. One tutor spent a combined 13 hours tutoring Chinese students with the use of WeChat.

The Chinese students were taught English based on their current understanding of the language. A total of three Chinese students were tutored throughout the month of March. The three students consisted of a fourth, fifth, and sixth grader. The fourth and fifth graders were taught basic English vocabulary and grammar, and the tutor would spend most of the session going over their textbooks and reviewing vocabulary words to make sure they understood what the words mean, how to pronounce them, and how to use them in a sentence. The sixth grader had the best understanding of English out of the three, so she was taught more advanced grammar rules with the use of English short stories.

Tutoring these three students was very fun, and the best part was when the students had improved their English over time.

Attendance: Jay Pan (13 hours)
