Greater Princeton AYLUS Hosts a Candle-Lighting Ceremony to Mark the U.S. Coronavirus Death Toll Reaching a Devastating 500,000 Lives Lost in February 2021

With the U.S. approaching a devastating 500,000 COVID-19 deaths, plans are underway for the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) to mark the moment this week.

While coronavirus cases are trending down and vaccinations are ticking up, the U.S. is struggling to get a handle on the threat posed by new variants. Experts are still far from certain that America is finally clawing its way out of the pandemic, with Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease specialist, telling media that it’s “possible” Americans will still need to wear masks in 2022 to protect against the coronavirus, even as the U.S. may reach “a significant degree of normality” by the end of this year.

AYLUS members have done a tremendous job serving our community over this COVID pandemic since February 2020. Along with the rest of 87 branches across the country, GPA members led the fundraisers for personal protective equipment and donated them to the frontline healthcare professionals with urgent needs in hospitals, EMS, rescue squads, fire and police stations, veterans memorial homes, senior living centers, and more. We also hosted Save A Life art shows, making best wishing cards, gifts, and virtual concerts to lift the spirits of our community. Still, now it comes the time for the GPA members to hold a candle lighting ceremony, mourning the 500,000 deaths.

Yang (2/22, 3 hrs; 2/28, 1 hr), Cassie Tammy Wang (2/22, 1 hr), Fiona Fan (2/27, 1 hr), Gina Shen (2/27, 1 hr), Xin Chen (2/27, 1 hr), Maggie Yan (2/27, 1 hr), Audrey Wang (2/28, 1 hr), Natalie Clark (2/28, 1 hr), Abigail Bao (2/28, 1 hr), Annabelle Huang (2/28, 1 hr), and more.
