Greater Princeton AYLUS Sports Committee Continues Chess Class for Kids (25th) in January 2021

The Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) Sports Committee continues chess classes every Monday and Tuesday for beginners along with Chess Tournaments on the first Saturday every month starting in October 2020.

During class, the students went over more endgame plays with a king and a pawn. After class, there is always time to play games against each other to practice the skills we have learned in class in an actual game. Having learned a variety of skills, the students are improving their visualization, tactic, and position skills.

The GPA Sports Committee continued with another class for beginners. It occurs every Tuesday from 7 to 8 pm. During class, we teach basic information needed to play a game of chess such as what we call the pieces, how they move, and to how to set up a chessboard. We learned how to remove the defender type of puzzles and how to remove the defender using multiple techniques. After class, the students played games against each other via chess.com.

Participants: Sarah Yan (1/25, 2 hrs; 1/26, 2 hrs), Erick Yan (1/25, 2 hrs; 1/26, 2 hrs).

GPA will host the next Chess Tournament on February 6, 2020 from 2 to 4 pm EST.
