In November 2020, student members of the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) teamed up and continued teaching kids in the subjects of math.
GPA members Karen Yang, Kevin Song, Kathy Yang (11/15, 2 hrs): This week we continued our Algebra content! We gave the students a check in question, “How do you make 24 with 11, 2, 4, and 6?” We then went over today’s agenda which included introducing students to check-ins, tests and topic lists, a review of numbers (integers, whole numbers, natural numbers, rational vs. irrational numbers), PEMDAS rules and properties, distributing, and factoring. After each mini topic, we gave students some problems to try on their own and also see the reason/ importance behind each specific rule. Finally, we played a Kahoot game to review this. Then, we assigned homework for the next class. We’ll be having class next Sunday!
GPA member Annie Miao (11/15, 2 hrs): This week, Annie taught her 5th-grade student about percentages and how to use them given various problems. She also had an overview of negative numbers and how to use them with different operations in math.
