Greater Princeton AYLUS Continues Chess Class for Kids (18th) in November 2020

The Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) continued chess classes every Monday along with Chess Tournaments on the first Saturday every month starting in October. During class, the students learned about middle game positions. After class, there is always time to play games against each other to practice the skills we have learned in class in an actual game. Having learned a variety of skills, the students are improving their visualization, tactic, and position skills.

GPA has continued with another class for beginners. It occurs every Tuesday from 7 to 8 pm. During class, we teach basic information needed to play a game of chess such as what we call the pieces, how they move, and to how to set up a chessboard. We went over the Italian opening and the opening principles, and what promotion is and the Petrov opening (copying opening). The students learned how to checkmate with a bishop and queen in 1 move. After class, the students played their first game against each other via Chess.com.

GPA will host our next Chess Tournament on December 5, 2020 from 2 to 3 pm EST!

Participants: Sarah Yan (November 9, 10; 2 hrs each), Erick Yan  (November 9, 10; 2 hrs each)
