Greater Princeton AYLUS Teamed up to Tutor Kids Math (36th) on September 20, 2020

During the week of September 13-20, 2020, four student members of the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) teamed up and taught kids in the subjects of math.

GPA members Karen Yang, Kevin Song, Kathy Yang (1.5 hrs for all): The students continued to learn our Pre Algebra content- we continued with geometry! We first checked homework from last class and answered questions the kids may have had by calling on students. We then began class by talking about Pythagorean theorem with examples on the relationships of squares and triangles. We also explained what “FOIL” means and how that can help with solving the triangles. We did some problems with the Pythagorean theorem. Finally, we wrapped up with a Kahoot to help the kids solidify their knowledge. Then, we assigned homework for the next class. We’ll be having class next Sunday!

GPA member Annie Miao started her first week of tutoring for the school year. It’s a tutoring program that takes place online through Zoom where students of grade K-8 can sign up and receive help in math each week. Annie tutored 2 students this week (9/13, 2 hrs; 9/18, 2 hrs; 9/19, 2 hrs), one taking grade 5 math and the other taking Algebra I. The student in grade 5 first had an evaluation to see what skills she already knew and then learned multiplication and division with decimals. The other student had a review for her upcoming quiz on equations with variables.
