Greater Memphis Branch Teaches Tennis on August 3rd and August 10th

On August 3rd and August 10th, Alan Cheng, an 8th grader, and Lucas Zhang, a 7th grader, volunteered to teach younger children how to play tennis. Two college students assisted them to coach seven kids on August 3rd and five kids on August 10th. They started their lesson with basic warm-up drills, including bouncing the ball on a racket and the ground. They then split the kids into two groups and started some basic hitting drills like dropping and tossing the ball for them to hit. After this, they did some hand-eye coordination drills like hitting balls into the air for them to catch and some footwork drills like running along the lines of the court. They ended with a fun game called “crazy tennis,” where there were no rules. Both Alan and Lucas are looking forward to continue coaching tennis, hopefully having one lesson every week. Each of the previous lessons was one and a half hours long.
