East Pittsburgh Branch Organizes a Chess Lesson via Zoom On June 28th, 2020

On June 28th, 2020, one volunteer (Jason Chen) from the East Pittsburgh Branch held a chess tutoring session on Zoom. There were 9 participants that day, which is great for a start. Jason used first shared a short Slideshow he made with students to introduce basic chess principles and concepts. Then, he moved on to beginner chess puzzles that were found on the Internet. Students were asked to think and calculate for 1-2 minutes to precisely come up with the best move to solve the puzzles. The presentation and puzzle solving took around 30 minutes. Lastly, Jason instructed everyone to open Chess.com whether on their phone, iPad, laptop, computer, etc. and challenge each other to friendly matches. (Participants all came with Chess.com ready because it’s a really useful tool/app/website one can use to improve in their chess abilities.) Overall, students had fun with the puzzles and each took away something from today’s lesson.
