Greater Princeton AYLUS Teamed up to Tutor Kids Math (13th) on May 3, 2020

On May 3, 2020, student members of the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA), Kevin Song and Karen Yang, teamed up and taught 5 kids from West Windsor in the subjects of math.

The 3-hour class offered by GPA members starts with an hour of prep for gathering materials around noon. Then at 3:30-5:30 Karen and Kevin teach Pre-Algebra class. The 5 kids, Kathy, Victor, Claire, Meisu, Claire, are in 5th grade, and being taught Pre-Algebra.

Kids were taught online again, beginning with kids reviewing last week’s material and continuing the lesson on solving algebraic equations. Students were given a warm up question to answer and then reviewed with teachers. Teachers walked students through multiple problems and students were given opportunities to ask questions. This time, it was more student run and kids did individual work before communicating their final answer to our teachers via Zoom’s “private messaging.” Material was clearing algebraic solutions, “no solution” and “all real number” solutions. Next week we may be taking a break due to Mother’s day- more to come!
