Sep 23-27 East Cobb Branch “Give a Hand” Fall Break Pack Lunch

East Cobb Branch Participates in YMCA Lunch Delivery Program (September 23 – September 27, 2019)

During the week of September 23 – September 27, 2019, members of East Cobb Branch participated in the YMCA Lunch Packing Program.

The program’s goal is to serve over 300 children each day over school breaks. It needs many volunteers to help deliver and serve lunches to local kids. These children may not be able to have a healthy meal when school is out. The program also inspires volunteers to communicate with the children.

On Monday, Cynthia, Nicholas, and Eileen went to Hillcrest and packed about 300 lunches for two and a half hours. Today, many of the children came to pick up the lunches.

On Tuesday, Rachel, Nicholas, and Eileen went to Hillcrest and packed about 300 lunches for two and a half hours. Today, a lot of children came to pick up the lunches.

On Wednesday, Jalon and Eileen went to Hillcrest and packed about 300 lunches for two and a half hours. Today, a lot of the children came to pick up the lunches.

On Thursday, Rachel, Nicholas, and Eileen went to Hillcrest and packed about 300 lunches for two and a half hours. Today, a lot of the children came to pick up the lunches.

On Friday, Nicholas went to Hillcrest and packed around 75 lunches. Today, a good amount of kids came to pick up the lunches, and most left while two stayed and drew.

Our members participated in the whole process of the program by packing well-balanced, child-friendly meals into a lunch bag, and delivering them along with a bottle of water to those children. The members also played with the children and helped the children color after the children ate their lunches.

Volunteers spent a majority of the time giving attention and listening to the children. The children really enjoyed having company. They liked playing Go Fish with the volunteers, and coloring was enjoyed by both the boys and the girls. The children were especially happy when they were told that they could keep the pens and the books.

Attendance: Nicholas Zhang (10 hrs), Eileen Zhang (10 hrs), Rachel Li (5 hrs), Cynthia Ruan (2.5 hrs), Jalon Wang (2.5 hrs)
