East Cobb Branch Prepared A Chinese Mid-Fall Video

For the 2019 Chinese Mid-Fall festival, the committee of AYLUS at East Cobb Brunch invited Gary Mei, Stanley Lu, Kevin Shen, and Katherine Sha to form a small leading group to create a play for 2019 Mid -Fall Festival. As the traditional Chinese festival was approaching, the four of them came out the comic play of “The Chinese parents and their ABC Youth”.

During the busily scheduled school weekdays and under the pressure of tests and projects due, Gary Mei, Stanley Lu, Kevin Shen, and Katherine Sha met 3 times (1-2 hours each time) at Gary’s home, Chicken Fil A and JFBC Church separately to discuss the theme and finalize the draft. Later on, The four rehearsal to act the play clip by clip and put the parts together, eventually showed the audience of about 100 people the video on the day of Med-Fall festival. Stanley made a big contribution on putting the clips together with his modern DJ machine.

This play showed the cultural conflict between Chinese parents and their kids in many ways: money spending/saving, food like/dislike, academy importance, individual and societal value…. In the end, both parents and youth understand each other better and came to agree with the disagrees: respect East and West culture, show appreciation to hard-working parents and understand the new generation’s struggle.

Gary Mei played the role of Son #1, the scriptwriter, and recorded some of the video.

Stanley Lu played the role of the father, the video editor, and the video recorder.

Kevin Shen played the role of Son #2, helped with the script, and recorded some of the video.

Katherine Sha played the role of the mother, helped with the script, and recorded some of the video.
