Reported by Cassie Tammy Wang

Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) “Earth Team”Volunteers, Joyce Li and Cassie Wang, concluded their 2019 Summer Project at the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on August 30, 2019, from 8 am to 4 pm (8 hours).

Barbara Phillips, the Public Affairs Specialist of the NJ NRCS, has been the supervisor of the GPA Earth Team Volunteers and showed them the know-hows of the office. She has retired at the end of July, so there are many things needed to be wrapped up. As a surprise and a farewell gift, Earth Team Volunteer Cassie Wang made a video for Barbara containing some photos of Barbara as well as some words from her coworkers. This video will be gifted to Barbara in hopes that it will bring joy to her and it will be a precious walk down memory lane.

The video was finished today by Earth Team Volunteer Cassie Wang. The GPA Earth Team Volunteers also helped Carrie Lindig (State Conservationist) with recording a video to be used for a project with State Conservationists of other States.

Today was the last day of the two GPA Earth Team Volunteers at NRCS. In order to thank Cassie Wang and Joyce Li, the NRCS employees gifted them flowers, brought cake and gave them certificates. Both of the GPA volunteers learned a lot working at NRCS this summer. They worked on all sorts of projects, from updating databases, designing Habitat Restoration signs, creating a video for Barbara Phillips to going out into the field for soil testing, painting grazing sticks, this has been a worthwhile experience.

The work of GPA Earth Team Volunteers will allow NRCS to stretch available resources and plus additional conservation practices on the ground. Their work is considered important, because it improves NRCS customer service and the environment for all.
