Greater Princeton AYLUS “Humanitarian Care” Team Served at YYMG Senior Care from July 1 to 15, 2019

Reported by Annabelle Huang

Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) “Humanitarian Care” Team spent 15 days of their valuable summer time, providing service at the YunYaMuGe (YYMG) Senior Care Kunming Xishan Tuanjie Branch, from July 1 to 15, 2019.

YunYaMuGe Senior Care, Kunming Tuanjie Branch had five apartment buildings for clients to live in, each consisting of about five rooms. They have a pond in the middle of the buildings. The rooms were dusted and cleaned everyday by the employees. They would very kindly notify clients when their meals were prepared. They also led seniors to do exercises and took their time to chit chat with them. To help these empty-nested seniors, GPA team worked alongside the employees, trying to bring happiness to them and making their living environment a more beautiful and enjoyable place.

The GPA team joined services such as cleaning the client’s rooms, washing the dishes, teaching staff members English, leading the seniors to do exercises and managing the front desk.  During the hours spent with the staff, the team not only learned about the preparation process of meals and the efficient way to fold bed sheets, but also realized that the staff members were committed wholeheartedly to their work. They spent their time to dust unnoticeable corners around the room and place the television remote controls in an organized position. The GPA team served alongside them and tried the best to learn from their tireless spirit.

On the other hand, the friendly elderly also enlightened the team in an unexpected way. Sitting down on the couch beside the seniors after exercises, the GPA team listened quietly to their life experiences and learned from their wisdom. These elderly people were lonely. Most of their sons and daughters have left them for work, and oftentimes, it means going to a place far away from their hometowns. Rarely do their children come home to visit them and spend time with their aging parents. They were in need of being taken care of with love. Feeling empathetic for these empty-nested seniors and slowly realized that this should be the exact reason why the GPA team was there to volunteer, spreading joy and happiness, and making them feel less lonely during their time at YYMG.

Manager of YYMG Senior Care, Mr. Xingping Chen (email cxp507@163.com) thanked GPA “Humanitarian Care” Team for their great service and hoped them to continue to volunteer for the community.
