East Cobb Branch “Give A Hand” Summer Event X– Deliver Lunch

During the week of July 8-12, 2019, members of East Cobb Branch participated in the YMCA Lunch Packing Program.

The program’s goal is to serve over 300 children each day over school breaks. It needs many volunteers to help deliver and serve lunches to local kids. These children may not be able to have a healthy meal when school is out. The program also inspires volunteers to communicate with the children.

On Monday, Susanna and Amy went to Bella Grande and packed about 20 lunches for 2.5 hours.  Some children came to pick up the lunches.

On Wednesday, Saloni, Jerry, Jack, and Brian went to Bella Grand and packed about 29 lunches for two and a half hours. Some children came to pick up the lunches.

On Thursday, Brian, Jeffrey, Gary, and Kevin went to Bella Grande and packed about 22 lunches for 2.5 hours.  A little number of children came to pick up the lunches.

On Friday, Katherine went to Bella Grand and packed about 23 lunches for two and a half hours. A few kids children came to pick up the lunches.

Our members participated in the whole process of the program by packing well-balanced, child-friendly meals, and drinks into a lunch bag, and delivering them to those children. Afterward, we also interacted with the children at Bella Grande by blowing bubbles or playing games with them. They seemed to have a lot of fun while having lunch.

Though most of the kids left as soon as they picked up their lunches, I could see that they were thankful, and sometimes when we saw their parents, I could see that they were very thankful for this program. It feels nice being able to help out the community and those in need.

Attendance:  Susanna Huang (2.5 hours), Amy Lu (2.5 hours), Jack Xu (2.5 hours), Jerry Xu (2.5 hours), Gary Mei (2.5 hours), Jeffrey Kuang (2.5 hours), Brian Kuang (5 hours), Kevin Shen (2.5 hours), Saloni Jain (2.5 hours), Katherine Sha (2.5 hours).
