Greater Princeton AYLUS Conservation Team Participated In “Putting Roots Down in Mercer County” Tree Planting Event on June 15, 2019

On June 15th, 2019, Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) Conservation Team members participated in the “Putting Roots Down in Mercer County” event as a group, led by Mercer County Land Steward Alex Rivera (arivera@mercercounty.org).

This year the stewardship efforts of the Naturalist Division continue to grow, in this case into a forest! Mercer County Park Commission received the “Roots for Rivers” riparian reforestation grant from the Nature Conservancy and the Watershed Institute to plant 4,200 trees, stream-side, on two different County-owned properties to improve water quality in the Stony Brook.

The GPA members wear boots or shoes that can get wet. Gloves were provided while some of the GPA members felt free to bring their own. They met at Stony Brook & Rosedale Park in Hopewell Township by 9:00 am then headed out for the 3 hours full of fun conservation event! By noon, they were able to plant 15 trees, going through the complete process of digging holes, planting trees, protecting the trees from deer and birds by wrapping them up, etc.

Participants: Amber Yu, Xin Chen, Fengqi Wen, and Aaron Wang

Great work, GPA Conservation team!
