April 13, 2019 East Cobb Young Musicians 2018-2019 School Year Performance VIII

On April 13, 10 of the East Cobb Young Musicians performed at Atria Johnson Ferry and Arbor Terrace in a total of TWO hours. The performance was extremely intriguing and interesting to the seniors because a variety of performers and programs were incorporated.
The two-hour program incorporated a variety of grand performances such as the Hungarian Dance 4-hand piano duet, Chinese folk dance, Handel’s Sonata in E, “Lie” (contemporary dance), Nocturn in e minor, and Debussy’s Suite Bergamasque on the piano. Though the AP Exams and the Georgia Milestones are looming ahead, 10 people managed to pull time from their own schedule to practice their pieces and spend time performing for the seniors; they pulled it off by performing these elevating 4-hand piano duets, the exciting violin duet, and the amazing quartet.
Members wanted the seniors to participate with the performers so that the members can share and communicate the love and power behind their intense, emotion-filled music, so they decided to sing “Amazing Grace” and “If You’re Happy and You Know It” for the seniors. Because these were popular songs, the seniors were able to sing along with the performers. Throughout the song, the members could hear the seniors mummering, “Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me, I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind but now I see.” The singers, listening to the seniors singing with them, were astonished. Though the seniors were singing faintly, that did not subdue the power and force of their emotions ringing throughout the air. The faintness did not subdue each crashing wave of emotional gratitude and appreciation for the forgiveness of the great and the all-mighty. It was almost as if the members were hearing the song for the first time.
