Greater Princeton AYLUS Member Amber Yu Volunteered Diligently in February 2019 to Serve Her Community

Reported by Cassie Tammy Wang

Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA), NJ Branch member Amber Yu has become so far one of the most active volunteers at GPA, and the project she like the most is “Community Service”.

Amber’s community service project at the Plainsboro Public Library went well and the staff highly appreciated her work. The week of Jan. 28, the library held their first Bargain Book Sale. Amber spent Jan. 28 (1 hour) and Jan. 31 (2 hours) to help sort the book and move them to the first floor for the weekend sale. On Feb. 2 (3 hours) and Feb. 3 (2 hours), the big book sale started at 11 am. She assisted the visitors to find their favorite books and restocked books from the basement as needed. The work was demanding, but Amber enjoyed it and felt great to serve the community.

At the Library’s 2019 Chinese New Year Celebration, Amber helped out with set-up, clean-up, preparing craft materials, the red envelopes and the lucky oranges, situating performers and all kinds of work on Feb. 7 (2 hours), Feb. 9 (3.5 hours), and Feb. 10 (3 hours). Also, She was in charge of making your own Peking Opera Mask at the Community Room. All participants had a great time. The Teen Volunteer Coordinator Joyce told Amber Yu, “It’s a huge, chaotic event that ran smoothly because of your hard work. You were wonderful, and I’m so glad to have gotten to work with you!”

Furthermore, Amber Yu participated in the “Goodreads Review Program” at the Plainsboro Library. She has written seven book reviews as of Feb. 24 and earned 3.5 volunteer hours!

In Grover School, Amber volunteered at the Media Center on Feb. 8 (0.5 hour), and continued her “Ed Tutoring” Project to teach a 6th grade student from her school district. They met for classes on Feb. 5th (1 hour) and Feb. 15th, 2019 (1 hour).

What a great volunteer with GPA! We hope all GPA members are inspired to join Amber Yu and volunteer at your spare time to better serve our community!
