Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA), NJ Branch, has many talented members. Since December 11th, 2018, we started to feature some of them on our web page, so all GPA members get to know each other. Hopefully, it would also help with more constructive and collaborative teamwork among GPA members in our volunteer activities! So here comes one of our proud members, also a RISING STAR, Edward Li:

Self-Introduction Provided by Edward Li:

I am nine years old, currently a 4th grader at Montgomery Village Elementary School. I am a happy boy with a nick name of Mr. Smile at school.

I am always ready to help other people – my favorite thing to do at the mall is the door holder for everyone. Currently, I work as a safety patroller at school, morning and afternoon duties each day for one semester. What I do is to make sure kids are walking instead of running, and to give people directions as well. It is quite a responsibility and I love it. At home, I always make sure doors are all locked, feed the chicken and walk the dog regularly. Mom can always count on me!

I have been taking Chinese Martial Arts (Kong Fu) lessons with Master Zhao Changjun since 5, and love it so much. I have made a lot of friends in class and performed in a few occasions. I have participated Kong Fu Competitions in Atlantic City for three times, each time being awarded some medals.

With my Gong Fu skills, I was recruited to act as a Kong Fu student in a film “Made in Chinatown”, which was released in November 2018. I had a blast and earned some money, which I am going to use to help others. Recently, I donated $80 of my own money to help the Young Scholar’s Event in my classroom.

I do love acting and performing in front of people. I took Master Acting classes from film director Tom Logan and wanted to apply techniques learned to each performance. I came in the Second Place for the Stage Category in a recent competition organized by the ICEPN, and beat many 12 or 13 years old competitors.

For me, volunteering is a habit. I have been volunteering and giving performance since eight in five different senior centers so far. During my performance, I am always able to make my audiences laugh a lot. By joining the GPA with quite several friends of mine, I feel it opens more chances for kids like me, who are willing to help others, to benefit our community even in a small way.
