Greater Princeton AYLUS Featured Talented Members VII: Catherine Feng on December 19, 2018

Reported by Cassie Tammy Wang

Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA), NJ Branch, has many talented members. Since December 11th, 2018, we started to feature some of them on our web page, so all GPA members get to know each other. Hopefully, it would also help with more constructive and collaborative teamwork among GPA members in our volunteer activities! So here comes one of our team leaders Catherine Feng:

Self-Introduction Provided by Catherine Feng:

I am Catherine, an 8th grader at Montgomery Upper Middle School. As a teenager, I have a variety of interests, including reading, writing, and drawing. For me, there’s nothing better than choosing a good book and immersing myself in it to escape from the stress and responsibilities in my own life. I remember some of the series that made me fall in love with reading were Percy Jackson, Throne of Glass, and the Mortal Instruments.

I play the flute and the piano, and I’ve been learning Chinese for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I’ve competed in quite a few contests, as well as in many debates. I’ve also hosted some of the parties at my chinese school. In school, my favorite subjects are math and science, and I’m in many math and science clubs. I’ve been in both the school Science Olympiad and Lego Robotics teams, and although we have never made it past the states competition, both have taught me a lot about teamwork, perseverance, and friendly competition.

I’ve also done some volunteer work prior to joining GPA, such as helping to sort books in the public library, being a teacher’s assistant in my chinese school, and performing in a nursing home. Each experience has taught me much about empathy and appreciating all that others have done for me.

Being selected as a team leader, I hope that I will be able to make the best out of this opportunity to give back to the community through GPA. My past experiences have taught me a lot about the necessity for teamwork and cooperation, and I look forward to working with you! I hope that we, as a team, will be able to leave a positive impact on our community.
