20181201 East Cobb Branch Held Youth Tutoring Program XII

The East Cobb Branch of AYLUS held its 12th free tutoring session at East Cobb Library for students’ grades K through 8. The tutoring lasted two hours and was open to all students. Students came in with questions from past quizzes, home work questions, and ask for help on learning specific concepts. At this session, the tutors were David, Howard, and Cynthia.

Tutors helped students with various subjects such as math, reading, and Spanish. One kindergartener that attended the session was having trouble with her vocabulary words that she was studying for her future quiz. Because her parents had trouble speaking and reading English, a tutor helped her create an online flashcard game for her that could read the words for her, so she could learn how to read them. The flashcard game not only helped her during the tutoring session, but also allowed her to go on it at home to practice.

The tutoring sessions help students learn at a speed more fit to themselves rather than that of the whole class. Therefore, if the student does not understand a concept, it can be retaught or taught in a different way. Tutors are able to adapt to each individual student learning style, making a more comfortable environment for the student.

The East Cobb Branch holds tutoring sessions through the East Cobb Youth Tutoring program every Saturday at East Cobb Library, giving an opportunity for students in the East Cobb area to get help with their studies. The program gives students a comfortable environment to ask for help in academics, and the interaction between tutors and students also makes learning more enjoyable.
