East Cobb Members Participated Summer Lunch Program VI

On Jul 3rd and 6th, members from East Cobb Branch of AYLUS went to a low-income neighborhood to help provide food to underprivileged kids and adults. Through the help of the YMCA, many kids and adults went away with a healthy meal and a smile on their face.

Our members took care of two locations with Y’s staff: Garden Terrace Apartments, and Clifton Ridge Townhouse, we helped to unload food pack from truck, setting the table to hold packed the lunch bags.

The lunch contained broccoli, carrots, chocolate milk, yogurt, salad dressing, and a sandwich. The food was assembled by an assembly line where the food was gently placed into bags and handed out to the children and adult residents.

Besides serving food, the volunteers played tag and soccer with some of the kids. The kids had a great time playing those activities, all smiles the entire time.

The service lasted two hours from 11:15 am -1:15 pm. However, as the location was new, not many knew of the service and mostly adults came or one person per family. The goal of helping underprivileged community by serving lunch and engaging with them was still nonetheless successfully fulfilled.

Susanna and Selina went to Clifton Ridge Townhouse, it has more open space and people there. Due to Jul 4th holiday and hot weather, less people came to pick up the lunch this time.

Attendance: Maxwell Jiang(4 hours), Jay Pan(4 hours), Kevin Shen(2 hours), Michael Fu(2 hours), Jeffery Kuang(2 hours), Selina Huang(2 hours), Susanna Huang(2 hours).
