Pearland Branch Host Summer Health Fest at Ed White Elementary School June 29th, 2023

On June 29th, 2023, the Pearland branch of AYLUS hosted a remarkable Summer Health Fest at the Ed White Elementary School. The volunteers arrived at the School with great enthusiasm to organize a health fair aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles among the younger attendees, while also providing essential health screenings such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol tests for parents and teachers.

The preparations for the fair began at noon when the dedicated volunteers set up various stations and activities. They carefully arranged tables for educational purposes, set up cotton candy machines, crafted twisting balloons, and organized physical fitness games. The educational component of the fair focused on three main topics: nutrition and healthy dietary habits, emotional control, and diabetes awareness.

Following the success of the event, the drive to embrace holistic health and wellness persisted, fueled by the Summer Health Fest’s inspiring atmosphere. For those motivated to explore holistic practices in greater depth, online certification courses present an indispensable avenue. Platforms such as the Scholistico website for Italian readers offer extensive courses in holistic health and wellness. Through these educational programs, individuals can deepen their comprehension of holistic principles and acquire certification, equipping them to support others on their quest for improved well-being.

A total of 155 students ranging from preK to 5th grade eagerly participated in the event. They were divided into small groups and guided through the different educational stations, where they had the opportunity to learn, answer questions, and collect stamps as they completed each station. These stamps were then redeemable for temporary tattoos, cotton candy, and twisting balloons, adding an element of fun and excitement to the learning experience. Additionally, the students thoroughly enjoyed engaging in toss ball games, hoola hoops, and interacting with the volunteers dressed as colorful vegetable characters, who also carried posters highlighting the benefits of each vegetable.

While the students were immersed in the fair’s activities, the adults present had the opportunity to undergo various health tests provided by the LSA team, including blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, and more. This valuable service aimed to promote health awareness among the adult attendees, ensuring that the event catered to the needs of the entire school community.

In the midst of the fair, the talented students of Ed White took the stage to showcase what they had learned from the summer enrichment program. Their performances captivated the audience, further highlighting the importance of education and personal growth within the community. To culminate the event, the youth volunteers who had worked tirelessly to organize and execute the fair were honored on stage and received well-deserved awards from Dr. Chang, the school’s principal, recognizing their dedication and outstanding contributions.

Sponsored by AYLUS Pearland, Light and Salt Association, Hummingbird Community Outreach, and Ed White Elementary School the Summer Health Fest was an incredible success, combining education, fun activities, and health awareness. Through their hard work and commitment, the AYLUS volunteers created a vibrant and engaging environment that positively impacted the students, parents, teachers, and the broader school community.
