The AYLUS Dix Hills Branch works with the Half Hollow Hills Library to tutoring children K-5 struggling in school on March 8, 2023. Today we were able to help 6-8 kids (6 at the start with 2 later coming to join). Volunteers helped the children do their homework and let them be more expensive in their responses. For example, there was a 5th grader who was working on interview questions with the main character Isabella from Blended by Sharon M. Draper. Members encouraged her to be descriptive and understand the perspective of Isabella by putting themselves in their shoes. Through this they were able to acknowledge different facets of thought as well as being more unique in their writing, writing more as an after effect.

AYLUS Dix Hills hopes to make a positive impact on the community’s academic environment as well as children’s mental well-being.

Volunteers: Ru Xue Jiang (1 hour and 30 minutes), Asiya Hasanoff (1 hour), Aisha Rahimi (1 hour), Atiya Haider (1 hour), Gurvani Singh (1 hour), and Lilian Chen (1 hour)
