Chapel Hill Branch Participates in Booker Creek Trail Forest Restoration Project on Sep 18, 2021

On September 18th, the Chapel Hill AYLUS Branch participated in the Booker Creek Trail Forest Restoration Project to help remove invasive species from Chapel Hill public parks. The prologue of the event was opened with the lecture from Mrs. Jeanette Bench. She is a member of Chapel Hill Park and Recreation Department and addressed the problem of invasive plants in our town. From her talk, we learned that invasive plants harm the native ecosystem of our parks and nature preserves, as well as prevent the growth of native species and threaten native plants. Our mission is to remove the invasive plants from the Booker Creek Trail. During the event, AYLUS-Chapel Hill members and other volunteers worked together to help pull, chop, cut, and remove the invasive plants from the trail. After two-and-a-half-hour hard work, we removed most of the invasive plants nearby the entrance of the trail. We have learned that the work of invasive plant control depends on a lot of volunteers’ contributions and our branch will try our best to participate in the project and to help improve the ecosystem.
