AYLUS Pearland worked with First Baptist Church of San Antonio and First Baptist Church of Allende Coahuila of Mexico to host a donation drive to support refugees and low income residents at US-Mexico border. The event started at late August and finished by September 6th. All collected items were delivered to residents and refugees in the Allende Coahuila area of Mexico by church volunteers. Alvin Zheng created the flyer and William Sun set up the google form to log all the donations. Six volunteers; Aila Jiang, Shaochen Liu, Eric Qi, Hannah Sang, Alex and William Sun, and Derek Zhu, offered to have their houses serve as drop-off locations for the donations. By Labor Day weekend, each location had collected multiple bags of clothes, bedding and bath items, toys, school supplies, along with household items and furniture. There were over 40 donors who graciously donated a total of 3000 items.
Through this event, volunteers learned how the items they see as worthless could hold meaning for others. The donations received through this event will go towards hundreds of families in Mexico, impacting their lives greatly. AYLUS Pearland will continue to work with the First Baptist Church of San Antonio to help families in Mexico for many years to come.
