On Sunday, July 25th, the Alliance of Youth Leaders in the United States (AYLUS) hosted its first ever AYLUS career conference. In the conference, 19 unique speakers talked about their careers, personal branding, research, community service experience, and college applications experience. 8 AYLUS San Diego members attended this event.

The career panels covered business, medicine, law, and STEM careers. In these panels, the guests spoke about their day-to-day life, talked about the journey they took, and gave advice to attendees who aspire to join their field.

The personal branding workshop was led by Stephanie Su, an incoming freshman at UC Berkeley. Through her LinkedIn, Stephanie has built her own brand and amassed 9000 followers and 2.2 million views. Stephanie discussed the impact personal branding has had on her life and encouraged each applicant to build their own brand on social media. She talked about the difficulties she went through and how she overcame them.

The research panel included four talented individuals who have been recognized numerous times at national and international competitions for their dedication to their research. They spoke about how they started research and about what encouraged them to keep going. Furthermore, they gave advice for students who wish to start doing research in high school.

The community service panel featured two hard workers who have made a huge impact in their communities; one speaker, Michelle Zong, is a former national AYLUS president and a former AYLUS Columbus Branch president. Both speakers spoke about the joys they discovered in volunteering and encouraged the attendees to seek out volunteering opportunities in their communities.

Finally, the college applications panel spotlighted four recent graduates who shared their experiences going through one of the most stressful tasks in high school: applying to colleges. They shared their paths through this difficult and demanding time and provided advice to students going through or preparing to go through the same process.
