AYLUS Helps With Pearland Annual Multicultural Festival

On February 29th, AYLUS members helped volunteer at the annual multicultural festival located at Pearland High School. Members contributed by coordinating a booth representing the prosperous Chinese culture.

AYLUS’s booth consisted of various activities as well as aspects that taught visitors about the history and lifestyle of Chinese culture. For instance, board members from the Pearland Chinese Association brought bookmarks consisting of the twelve zodiac animals. Guests were able to learn about their animal based on the year that they were born in. The AYLUS YoYo team taught young kids as well as adults different tricks and techniques revolving around the Chinese toy. Additionally, students from Rogers Middle School demonstrated the art of Chinese calligraphy. Visitors were able to translate their names into Chinese characters, which were then drawn with ink onto paper as a souvenir. Furthermore, traditional Chinese clothing was available for both volunteers and guests to try on and take pictures with. These costumes were similar to what people in the Han Dynasty would wear on a daily basis. Overall, AYLUS’s booth was able to educate and give exposure to others about the traditional culture.
