Phoenix Branch Cleans Up “Veterans Oasis Park” on January 4, 2020

On January 4, 2020 from 9am to 11:30am (2.5 hours), the Phoenix branch started the year off right by cleaning up litter and other waste at Veteran’s Oasis Park. While the park was still relatively clean from our last clean-up event, the volunteers made it close to spotless, picking up any piece of trash whether it was a small wrapper or a trail of dog waste. No matter how disgusting, our volunteers were willing to pick up the junk that would have otherwise ruined the beautiful scenery of the park. Other volunteers brought garden sheers to trim any protruding bushes or trees that could have been a potential hazard to the park visitors.

Because cleaning up the park is such a simple activity, we once again had large turn out from all ages. Our members who participated in this event include Katherine Wei, Marina Hu, Ethan Wei, Michael Chen, Richard Cheng, Emily Zeng, Kevin Li, Audrey Zeng, Daniel Wong, Yongfeng Chen, Wenting Chen, Davina Chen, Charles Zhang, Eddie Zhang, Michelle Lee, Xiaofan Li, Caleb Liu, Hannah Luo, Amy Xie, Kerry Zhuo, Yunfeng Zhuo, Andrew Yang.

This event not only was great for the park, but also enjoyable for the volunteers since they had fun pointing out the strange garbage that was lying around, walking around with their friends, and finally, enjoying the gorgeous scenery. Because they seemed to love this type of event, we hope to continue holding events at the Veteran’s Oasis Park.
