The AYLUS Houston Branch Participates in Art for Hope

For the first time ever, the AYLUS Houston Branch, under the leadership of our Vice-President Flora Hu, participated in the “Art for Hope” project to teach art to disadvantaged kids in shelters. Through a two-week process, the AYLUS Houston Branch collected 2 full boxes of art supplies such as brushes, paint, and color pencils in order to donate them to these children.

The children that we worked with are usually come from abusive families or are in a bad position, so we wanted to provide them with something fun to do to get the rougher times off their minds. The AYLUS Houston Branch went to the Mission of Yahweh shelter and started the first class with a theme of learning about trees. First, there was story time where we read “Kate, Who Tamed the Wind” which introduced the kids to the importance of trees in our environment. Next, we set up supplies for the kids to make their own trees. Each volunteer helped the children complete his/her craft, this lasting around for around hours.

Thanks to Flora Hu, Rosalyn Hang, Victoria Le, Aaron Tsui, Aubrey Cui, Eric Li, Jacky Jiang and Jonathan Liu for coming out to help out!
