On October 24, 2026, four members of the AYLUS Great Neck Branch worked at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum’s pinetum from 9:30am to 12:00pm.
The volunteers protected the large, beautiful pine trees by using gloves, shovels, and weeding sickles to remove invasive plants. These weeds compete with the pine trees for essential nutrients that are needed for growth. By working together, the AYLUS members cleared the area around the trees and filled numerous buckets with invasive plants. Removing the weeds’ roots required immense strength, but the AYLUS group worked diligently to ensure that the pine trees could continue to thrive.
