AYLUS Great Neck Branch Holds AAPI Event at the Main Library 61st (6/27/26)

      On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the AYLUS Great Neck Branch gathered at the Great Neck Main Library to host a reading and craft program. The program began with volunteers reading three books. Nathan read “A Map Into the World”, a story of a young Hmong girl who experiences birth and loss, while Jiangyuan read “Cat and Rat”, a story about Rat’s betrayal of Cat in the zodiac race. To end the reading program, Jolynn read “New”, a story of a boy who eagerly prepares for the Lunar New Year. Afterward, volunteers led craft activities such as origami, crochet, and clay. Nathan and Austin taught how to make penguins, while Andrew taught how to make cranes. Jolynn guided participants to make burgers and tacos out of clay, while Rainie taught crochet. Throughout the event, the volunteers worked with participants and encouraged creativity as well as literacy, while also giving the participants a positive experience for everyone.
