AYLUS Bellaire Branch Volunteered at Freewheels on June 27, 2026

On June 27, 2026, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, two members of the AYLUS Bellaire Branch volunteered at Freewheels Houston, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable transportation to low-income individuals, including refugees and veterans.

The volunteers were assigned to cleaning and repairing broken or stained bikes to restore them to working condition. First, they removed the wheels of the bike and any attachments including bike racks, headlights, and baskets. Then, they used degreaser and soap to wipe off any rust or dirt on the body and metal handlebars. After that, faulty equipment including bike tires, seats, and brakes were replaced and cleaned by volunteers. In the end, the wheels of the bike were inflated with air to 35-45 PSI and put back on the bike. At the event’s conclusion, two stained bikes were successfully restored to pristine condition.

Two volunteers participated in this event (3 hours each): Andrew Chen and Jin Zhou
