On Sunday, 02/08/2026, from 12pm to 5:30pm, our branch hosted our 212th event. Our members worked together with Senator John C. Liu and his team decorate, aid, and help manage the celebration for Lunar New Year.
During the event, our members separated into groups to help out. Firstly, we split into 3-4 smaller groups to help bring trays of food inside and carry boxes filled with soy sauce, taping up signs and other decorations, and we worked with Senator Liu’s team to guide performers inside and ready for their performance.
One group followed Jonathan, a member of the Senator’s team, while another group followed Shiang who is also a member of the Senator’s team. Through working in groups in a crowded space, our volunteers followed instructions given, developing together as a team and aiding each other in the crowded area. As some members help bring in supplies and decorations, other members are helping to serve the volunteers and the performers who are here with cold water/drinks and some food. Not only that, five of our members help with directing performers to the waiting room and aiding those who need directions to find a specific location such as the restroom. Not only that, they helped direct the performers on stage when their performance was coming up.
During the celebration, our members helped serve food to those attending and watching the performances and listening to the speeches given. The performances range from kids from PS203 performing the lion dance to the Youth Orchestra to traditional dances.
At the end of the event, our members cleaned up the venue, taking off the signs, throwing away garbage, as well as folding the tables and putting them away. Through the event, our members were able to learn more about traditional dances and celebration for the Lunar New Year, allowing many to connect with their Asian heritage.
We would like to thank all our members for coming and helping out today. We would also like to thank Senator John Liu for inviting us to the event and thank his team for working with us throughout the event. Our members are looking forward to working with you guys again!
