On Friday, December 5th, AYLUS Houston volunteers spent the afternoon supporting Citizens for Animal Protection, a local shelter dedicated to caring for rescued animals. The visit centered on giving the dogs much needed time outdoors, since regular walks are often limited by the shelter’s busy schedule. Volunteers began with the larger dogs and gradually worked toward the smaller ones, making sure each animal had a chance to exercise, explore, and enjoy a brief break from the kennel environment. While volunteers were walking the dogs, shelter staff were able to use that time to clean and maintain the dogs’ living areas, ensuring a healthier and more comfortable environment.
Once all the dogs had been walked, volunteers helped with tasks that keep the shelter running smoothly. They sorted and folded stacks of newspapers that would later be used to maintain clean and comfortable kennel spaces. This behind the scenes work may seem simple, yet it plays an important role in supporting the daily care of the animals. The event offered a meaningful opportunity for AYLUS Houston members to contribute to the well-being of the shelter’s dogs, and the group looks forward to returning for future service days.
