On Friday, July 25th, Syosset AYLUS visited the Sangha Learning Center, a non-profit organization that provides a safe space for individuals with high-functioning ADHD, autism, and OCD to come together and decompress. During today’s visit, we learned about the symbolic meaning of the Medicine Wheel Garden and we decorated ours with rocks that we had painted earlier. After, we learned about the fascinating process of extracting blue dye from indigo leaves, a plant long used for its natural pigmentation. We discussed how indigo has been cultivated and valued for centuries across different cultures for its deep blue hue. Then, we were able to take part in the dyeing process ourselves. We watched the white cloth transform into beautiful shades of blue.
