On September 27, 2025, AYLUS Basking Ridge held its weekly iPad Club at Fellowship Village, where members spent the morning helping seniors get more comfortable with their devices. Volunteers patiently guided participants through a wide range of tasks—from opening and navigating their email inbox, connecting Bluetooth to their cars, adjusting GPS volume, and changing phone wallpapers, to adding contacts, adjusting device volume, positioning iPads on desks, closing apps, exploring the library catalog, borrowing ebooks, making FaceTime calls, deleting search history, switching between light and dark mode, adjusting brightness, and zooming in and out. They also helped set up a mailing list for Fellowship Village and offered guidance with spam calls and a department store account.
The morning was full of laughter, curiosity, and small celebrations. Seniors beamed with pride as they sent their first FaceTime call or successfully organized their photos into albums. Volunteers encouraged every question and cheered every achievement, creating a warm, supportive environment where learning felt fun rather than intimidating. By the end of the session, participants left not just with new skills, but with a sense of confidence, independence, and excitement about exploring technology on their own. Beyond the devices, the club fostered connections—sharing stories, laughter, and encouragement—turning a simple tech session into a morning of empowerment and community.
