Newtown AYLUS Volunteers at FabLab Summer Camp (19th)

On August 8th, 2025 Friday four members of Aylus dedicated their afternoon to volunteering at the Fablab center. Fablab is a summer camp that focuses on elementary school kids learning future skills such as coding and design making. This week the main goal was lego robotics and minecraft based designs which volunteers were tasked with helping kids with any technical issues with the legos and also judging which designs were best however also provided the kids with a memorable and enjoyable experience.
As the four members of Aylus arrived at 11:45 am they began by interacting with the kids and also the staff working there. Soon after, since it was a Friday, volunteers began handing out slices of pizza for lunch to all the kids which the kids thoroughly enjoyed. Following lunch the campers split into two different groups, one where the students would design their minecraft world and have it judged while another would focus more towards lego robotics. The volunteers working with the design group served as helpers to those in need of ideas or inspiration, however they also acted as judges and handed out “awards” to the students with the best design in their respective categories. Similarly volunteers in the robotics group helped students with any tech or creativity issues but also competed alongside them giving the kids a common “enemy” to defeat, all ending with a memorable and enjoyable time. Finally at the end the volunteers were instructed to clean up any trash or lego that were left on the ground and also prepare the electronics for the next week’s camp.
Overall the event was a major success with the campers being happy and content with their designs and robots with the 4 volunteers providing assistance to all students.
Members who participated were Aiden Ye (Event Leader), Moiz Kothawala, Kylee Guo, Henry Wang each for 4h 30min.
