On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, members of the Newtown Branch of AYLUS dedicated their time from 1:45 PM to 4:15 PM volunteering at the FabLab Center (One Ivybrook Blvd. Ste 190, Warminster, PA). FabLab is a STEAM learning center where children and youth of all ages are able to explore various technologies and skills related to science, engineering, art, and math.
3 volunteers helped a group of 15 students utilize code to create structures in Minecraft. The students used block coding within Minecraft to get their automated character to place blocks in the programmed fashion. The volunteers helped these students with problem solving and any technical difficulties that the students had. In addition, the volunteers set up devices and robots for the students to use during their exploration period. Towards the end our volunteers helped reorganize the space for the next day and cleaned up all of the tables that the students were working on.
The event was successful, with students successfully completing their programming projects in Minecraft while having fun. The students also built a lot of skills related to problem solving and engineering, with all of their questions being answered effectively by our volunteers.
Members who participated were Justin Peng (Event Leader), Ivan Lee, Ryan He, each for 2.5 hours
