The East Cobb Branch holds Academic Tutoring Summer Event to give students an opportunity to learn during the summer. The event hopes to create a smooth transition for students rising to another grade level. The tutoring event not only helps make sure students understand previously learned concepts, but also gives students a preview of what they will learn in the next grade. The tutoring event provides students with a tutoring to work on concepts such as math and reading.
This time, the tutor worked with the student on phonics and arithmetic. The student was provided with summer workbooks in the subjects, so the tutor worked with the student on the concepts from the workbooks such as addition, subtraction, vowels, dictation, etc. During the session, the student seemed to struggle in arithmetic concepts, so the tutor reviewed different math concepts with the student. The tutor was also able to share some math shortcuts and tricks to help the student work on the math problems more efficiently.
The tutor felt joyed being able to help the student. The tutor was easily able to connect with the student because of the students outgoing personality. Because the program involves youth tutors tutoring students, they can connect with the students more and make learning more fun. In addition, the tutor was able to give more study advice and advice about school as the student rises to 3rd grade. The student also worked on much of the work at home making the tutoring session more useful by only working on the problems she didn’t understand.
