AYLUS Syosset volunteers on 4/17/2025 at LINPI

On April 17, 2025, members of the Syosset AYLUS chapter volunteered at the Long Island Native Plant Initiative (LINPI), contributing their efforts to support the care and organization of native plants. One of the main tasks involved repotting seedlings that had outgrown their starter trays, transferring them into larger containers to allow more space for root development. Volunteers also organized plant trays by species, grouping them according to sunlight and watering needs to optimize greenhouse efficiency. In addition, members removed invasive weeds from several growing beds to prevent them from competing with native species. To further support plant health, they helped mix soil blends tailored for different native plants, ensuring proper nutrient balance. Later in the day, the team cleaned and sanitized gardening tools and trays to prevent the spread of disease among the plants. Members also updated plant inventory records by scanning and logging tags, helping LINPI staff keep accurate documentation of what was growing on-site. The day ended with a group effort to sweep and tidy the work areas, leaving the greenhouse and nursery in great shape for the next round of planting.
