AYLUS Syosset branch went to Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary on 11/2/24

AYLUS Syosset branch went to Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary on 11/2/24 to remove decomposing leaves and large rocks from an artificial pond in the sanctuary. Large rocks had to be removed to the possibility that it might rip the tarp and destroy the artificial pond.
This activity required people to enter the pond with really cold water, so waders were needed to move around in the pool in order to protect the bottom half of our bodies and walk around in the pond. We used nets to scoop out the decomposing leaves and carefully used a shovel or stuck arms into the pond in order to remove the rocks. People who entered the pond were equipped with gloves to assist with lifting rocks out of water but it did not help with getting hands and arms wet. After most of the leaves and large rocks were removed, then rocks were lined around the perimeter of the pond.
