East Cobb Branch Participates 5-days Lunch Packing Program in Winter Break

On February 18th- 22nd, members of AYLUS East Cobb Branch participates in the YMCA Winter Break lunch packing program for 3 hours each day.

On February 18th-21st members of the East Cobb Branch made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to be packed into the lunches and packed snacks into individual ziplock bags. To fulfill the time deadline, members quickly and efficiently made the sandwiches to keep up with the fast pace. After making the sandwiches and packing the snacks, members packed the snacks into the lunch bag for the children. Then, members went to Clifton Ridge to hand out the lunches. Despite the cold and rainy weather, many children still came out to get lunches. Lunches were quickly passed out at the apartments. Although members were freezing in the weather, their hearts were warmed by the joy of seeing children run with great smiles to receive their lunches.

On February 22nd, the YMCA and Chick-fil-A gave out special Chick-fil-A lunches to the children. During the week, many kids would ask when the Chick-fil-A would be given out. Many kids looked forward to this day. Both members and Chick-fil-A workers worked together to pack the lunches consisting of sandwiches, cookies, and chips. As members passed out the lunches to the children, many of them showed great excitement: many children ran over to come receive the lunches with big smiles. One little girl was especially excited to receive her lunch that she held it so tight in fear of her siblings stealing it. So many children came to receive lunches there wasn’t enough, so the YMCA contacted Chick-fil-A for more lunches to ensure no child would be left without a lunch. While the children were awaiting for the lunches, members played tag and football with the kids. Although the weather was poor, it did not hold the children back from playing. Eventually, a bus came back with more lunches and all the children were fed.
