AYLUS Bellaire Branch members volunteered at Ed White Elementary School as tutors on March 2, 2024.
At Ed White Elementary School, the volunteers focused on tutoring kids with math and reading. They mainly helped 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. They guided students through worksheets and activities from their teacher. They also provided help or responded to students who manually asked for help. There are difficulties for us to overcome, such as helping bilingual students, and teaching a lesson in their subject that they may never learned before. Overall, by helping the students, the volunteers also decreased the pressure on teachers since one teacher cannot tutor multiple students sometimes. In conclusion, students are encouraged to ask questions and extend their prior knowledge, the volunteers also trained themselves better on teaching and communication skills.
Volunteer time: Saturday, March 2nd, 2024. 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, 3 hours.
