In July, AYLUS Houston volunteers joined LSA’s youth advocacy program for a week-long initiative to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent cancer in Asian groups. This year, the volunteers focused on learning key health skills and also learned how to serve the community and help others through practical actions.
Every day, the volunteers had three hours of training. In these sessions, they learned about mental health, nutrition, cancer prevention, and local government policies. They also created educational posters to raise awareness about preventing different types of cancer. On the second day of the program, Each volunteer has received practical training in CPR and AED techniques.
After the training, the volunteers put what they learned into practice through LSA’s service projects. They used their new skills to help community members, spread mental health knowledge, and show educational posters to explain nutrition and cancer prevention to others.
Through these activities, the volunteers gained a deeper understanding of the needs of the community. By serving others and sharing basic health knowledge, the volunteers of AYLUS Houston successfully demonstrated their strong commitment to helping the community.
