On August 2nd, the AYLUS Great Neck Branch volunteered at Kings Point Park, continuing our work to even out the walking trails. The weather was warm by noon, and the mosquitoes were out in full force—four of us ended up with at least five bites each! This was partly because the park staff directed us to a new, unfamiliar trail where the dense plants and environment seemed to attract even more mosquitoes. Fortunately, one of our members who used to train on these paths with the North High cross-country team helped us navigate using the map provided by the staff.
Our main tasks were similar to previous sessions: paving the paths, filling tracks with wood chips, and clearing the trails. However, we spent a bit extra time today navigating the new route and dealing with the mosquitoes. Armed with this experience, we know we can do better next time—we definitely plan to bring bug spray and wear long pants! Above all, we remain dedicated to upholding our mission of community service, convenience, and care.
