On Saturday June 20, 2026, Joshua Meng and Brendon Jiang hosted the Pearland Branch volunteer chess lesson. The students competed against each other, seeing who could solve each position quickly and accurately. Through this, they learned to recognize different types of basic checkmates and winning patterns. Additionally, they learned the thought process when looking at a position and the rules that come along with it. After, they competed against each other and learned the fun game of bughouse, a variant of chess. They found bughouse to be very fun and interactive.
AYLUS Pearland provides an opportunity to the community to learn about the wonders of chess, while still having fun, allowing them to practice concepts that they have learned, gain knowledge, and improve their overall gameplay.
