Newtown AYLUS Holds Yard Sale for Springtime School
On Saturday, May 30th, members of the Newtown AYLUS Branch set up and held a yard sale fundraiser in the Springtime School parking lot from 8AM-12PM. Preparations were made prior to the event, consisting of online and in-person marketing, collecting donations, organizing stand reservations, making traffic directory signs, and baking cookies to sell at the yard sale. Newtown AYLUS collected a variety of donation items (in good condition) from community members to donate to the Springtime School, such as clothing, shoes, purses, household appliances, books, toys, and bikes. Individual sellers also helped the Springtime School by paying stand reservation fees to sell their items.
During setup from 8-9AM, volunteers brought in supplies such as chairs, tables, trash bags, and snacks. During the event from 9AM-12PM, volunteers were assigned roles of managing the stand, selling cookies, or directing traffic to the yard sale. These roles shifted every 30 minutes to ensure that volunteers remained engaged and tasks were distributed evenly, except for the treasurer who stayed at the stand to record all transactions. After the conclusion of the event from 12PM-1PM, volunteers stayed to organize any unsold items. Any unsold items were donated to Goodwill or other local donation centers.
The total amount of money collected and sent to the Springtime School was $688.50. The Springtime School is a private school that supports children with autism and other developmental disabilities.
Everyone did an excellent job in completing their tasks and supporting the yard sale. An unexpected challenge was the cold, windy weather during the duration of the yard sale, but members adapted and remained in good spirits. Overall, this fundraising event was a great success!
