From 9:00 AM- 11:00 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2026, 3 members of the AYLUS Newtown Branch volunteered at the Gravity Hill Farm. It is an organized nonprofit farm that plants fruits and vegetables for people who need them.
It was a very rich and interesting experience. We have completed many small tasks for the farm. We help plant peppers, clean up weeds, pull out garlic moss, and plant tomatoes. The farmer taught us how to dig a hole of the right size and bury the seedlings to be planted. We also assisted the farmer and other volunteers in pulling out the garlic seedlings and bundling them into a handful of the specified number. This activity made us realize that food is not easy to come by, and it should be harvested and sown in the hot sun. And this experience allows our team to give back to the community and learn the importance of service and teamwork.
Members who participated were Ella Chen, 2h, and Zhiheng Wang, 2h
