AYLUS Great Neck Branch Holds AAPI Event at the Main Library 52nd (4/11/26)

On April 11th, from 3:45 to 5:00, the AYLUS Great Neck Branch volunteers held an AAPI event at the main library, providing storytelling alongside arts and crafts activities. The event began with story time, where volunteers read three separate books to the children. Jaden started by reading “Fanny’s Big Idea”, followed by Jolynn reading “Why We Eat Fried Peanuts”, and finally, Andrew read “Dumpling Soup”. Throughout story time, our volunteers engaged with the children through the use of tone changes and interactive questions. After story time, participants engaged in various hands-on and creative activities, such as making seals out of play-doh with Jolynn, learning how to crochet with Rainie, and making origami animals (such as butterflies, pigs, balloons, and dogs) with Rebecca, Andrew, Nathan, and Jiangyuan. Jaden also taught kids how to make lucky stars. In the end, both our participants and volunteers left with a positive experience. We thank everyone for coming today, and we hope to see everyone next time!
